ABOUT HARA

Helping families feel less stuck and more confident.

I’m Hara Howard, a Licensed Professional Counselor, school counselor, and children’s book author with over 15 years of experience supporting children and families through anxiety, worry, avoidance, and the challenges that show up in everyday life.

My work is also shaped by my own lifelong experience with anxiety. I know how overwhelming anxiety can feel from the inside, and that personal understanding helps me bring both empathy and practicality to the work. I believe meaningful change starts with connection, and that a strong therapeutic relationship creates the foundation for people to feel understood, supported, and safe enough to do hard things.

My approach is practical and collaborative, but it’s also personal I take time to understand the whole picture, including what’s happening at home, at school, in relationships, and in daily life.

I created Brave Together to provide practical, compassionate support that helps people build confidence while giving families tools they can actually use in everyday life.

Experience that bridges school and therapy

My background as both a school counselor and a Licensed Professional Counselor gives me a unique perspective on how anxiety affects children across settings. I understand the classroom, the home, the parent-child relationship, and the ways anxiety can interfere with everyday routines.

I’m also the author of The Worry Detective and It’s OK to Break the Rules, children’s books designed to help kids better understand worries, thoughts, and emotions.

I believe anxiety treatment should be practical, collaborative, and focused on real life—not just what happens during a therapy session.

Together, we look at the patterns that keep anxiety going, including avoidance, reassurance seeking, and family accommodation. The goal is not to eliminate every anxious feeling, but to help individuals and families respond differently so confidence can grow.

Practice Doing Hard Things
